How to Read This Gold Rate History

Is This the 22 Carat or 24 Carat Gold Rate?

It is read as the 22 carat (22K, 916) rate for one gram. No 24 carat history is shown here.

Why the series is read as 22K
  • The current rate is published under the heading "1 Gm Gold 22Kt". The archive's column is headed only "1 Gm Gold", but it holds the same figure at the same time: on 12 September 2026 (₹14,170 at 9:56 am) and 19 September 2026 (₹14,285 at 9:29 am) the two matched.
  • From 2006 to 2016 there was also a column headed "10 Gm Gold". In every one of those years its median was 1.07 to 1.08 times ten grams of the per-gram figure, where ten grams of the same gold would be exactly 1.00. That is the size of the gap between a 24K and a 22K rate (the national benchmark for 999 fine gold on 25 September 2026 was 1.09 times the 22K rate that day), so the per-gram column reads as the 22K rate beside a 24K figure. From 2017 that second column is mostly blank or zero, so it is not used here.
  • Nothing in the archive states the purity of the older rows, so those years rest on this consistency, not on a label.

Revisions, Missing Dates and Flagged Days

  • What a day holds. Every rate issued that day, in time order: the first and, on some days, later revisions. The chart, the summary figures, the "Last" columns and the year-wise table use the day's final rate.
  • Revisions over the years. From 2006 to 2022 the rate moved more than once on 5,031 of 5,215 trading days, and a day's last rate was a median ₹3 from its first. Since 2023 it has done so on 99 of 1,171 days, with a median move of ₹100.
  • Missing dates. A date with no row means no rate is held for it. Sundays account for 1,077 of the 1,186 calendar days without a row since 2 January 2006; the others include the national holidays of 26 January, 15 August and 2 October. A gap alone does not prove no rate was issued, so the lookup shows the previous available rate under its own date instead of carrying it forward.
  • Flags in the table. "Flagged for review" marks a day with a rate more than 8% away from the surrounding trading days. The figure is shown unchanged rather than smoothed. Some flagged figures sit among other high figures published over several days, as in late January 2026, and some are out of line with the same day's other publications, such as ₹1,479 at 10:30 am on 20 August 2010 against ₹1,747 at 3:30 pm. "One publication excluded" marks a day where a figure that was zero or more than 40% away from its neighbours was left out; the whole series has 4 such figures. "Corrected at source" marks a figure that was corrected after the day it was issued; none has been so far.

Is This the Price a Shop Charged?

Not on its own. Every figure in this gold rate history is the rate for the metal alone. A Nagercoil shop's board rate may differ from it, and a bill today adds making charges, any wastage, stones and GST to the metal value. The gold price calculator adds them up at the latest rate.
