Malabar publishes one gold rate for the whole of India rather than a rate for each state or city, and every piece in its online store is priced from these figures. Its rate page shows the 22K and 24K lines; the 18K figure is the one behind its 18K jewellery. These are rates for the metal alone. A piece adds Malabar's making charge, any stones and 3% GST, as the breakdown below shows.

Products at Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Nagercoil

Malabar sells gold and diamond jewellery, gold coins and bars: bangles, chains, necklaces, earrings, finger rings, pendants, bracelets, thaali chains, mugappu chains, mangalsutras, anklets and nose pins. The showroom lists a jewellery expert, size assistance and sub-brand sections among what it offers in store.

Malabar Gold 916 hallmark and purity

Malabar says its gold jewellery carries 100% HUID hallmarking. Kanyakumari district has been under mandatory BIS hallmarking since 2021. The six-character HUID is on the piece; check it in the BIS Care app before you pay. That is where a claim of hallmarking on every piece can actually be tested, piece by piece.

Its gold jewellery is listed as 18K and 22K: plain gold pieces are 22K (916), and most diamond and stone-set pieces are 18K (750), priced at the 18K rate. It says its natural diamonds are certified, go through 28 quality checks and are sourced under the Kimberley Process. Ask for the certificate with the piece, and for a duplicate it charges a fee.

Malabar Gold online shopping and catalogue prices

Its online store at malabargoldanddiamonds.com prices every piece in full, with its purity, net weight and each line of the bill, and you can reserve online and collect in a showroom. Asked whether those prices hold in a showroom, Malabar answers that some online offers and discounts do not apply in store, so take the piece's code to the counter and ask for the same breakdown there.

68 pieces listed in its online store on 19 September 2026, each listed as 18K and 22K. Prices include GST.

Malabar making charges: how a piece is priced

Malabar bills a piece in four lines.

  • Gold. The net weight, stones excluded, at its rate for that purity.
  • Stones. Diamonds and other stones priced on their own line.
  • Making charges. What Malabar charges for making the piece; the bill carries no separate wastage line, though another shop's quote may split the same work in two.
  • GST. 3% of the other three lines together, so a piece with a higher making charge carries a higher GST on the bill.

Malabar's charge is a percentage of the gold value and it differs by the kind of piece: among those pieces, bangles carried the lowest share of it and necklaces the highest, so the figure that matters is the one on the piece you want rather than any percentage for the shop. To set a Malabar price against another shop's quote, take that shop's making charge and wastage together as a share of the same gold value, at the same rate per gram. Ask whether a minimum charge applies as well: on a light piece it replaces the percentage rather than adding to it. No rule fixes a making charge, so ask another of the jewellers in Nagercoil for a written quote on the same piece. Estimate the jewellery price for the weight you have in mind.

For a piece you like in the showroom, ask for the estimate with the net weight, the rate, the making charge and any stones on separate lines.

Malabar gold scheme: its purchase plans and advance

Malabar runs three purchase plans and an advance. Each plan ends in a discount on the making charge rather than a return on the money, and the advance fixes the rate you buy at. Plans start at ₹1,000 a month and you join in its app.

PlanYou payAt the end
Golden Glitz An equal amount each month for 11 months, credited as gold weight Buy jewellery for the weight saved, with 75% off the making charge
The Gold Guard Plan One payment, which locks the gold rate and the weight Buy jewellery for that weight, with 80% off the making charge, custom designs included
Shine Diamonds A fixed amount each month for 11 months Buy diamond jewellery with 25% off the diamond value and the making charge
Advance The price of the piece, in full or in part, at today's rate Buy against the blocked rate for up to 1 year; a wedding advance bills at the booked rate or the rate of the day, whichever is lower

Each discount is a share of the making charge, so what a plan saves depends on the piece. On those pieces, Malabar's charge ran from 10.9% to 26% of the gold value, so on a piece at the bottom of that range a plan saves a fraction of what it saves on one at the top.

Before you join a Malabar gold scheme

  • "Which rate converts my payment, and for which purity?" A plan credits gold weight, and the weight depends on the rate and the purity used on the day you pay.
  • "Which pieces does the making-charge discount not cover?" Malabar's plan pages name no exclusions; get the answer in writing before you join.
  • "What happens if I miss a month or close early?" No published term says, so ask what you get back and when.
  • "Can I redeem at another Malabar showroom?" Nothing published says the plan is tied to this showroom or free of it; have the answer written on your receipt.
  • "Does the discount apply to the stones and the GST too?" The discount is named against the making charge, and diamonds only under the diamond plan.

Malabar returns, exchange and old gold

What Malabar pays for gold you bring in turns on whether you are exchanging it or selling it. Its exchange promise gives 100% of the value of 22K gold, measured on net weight and read on a karat analyser, against a new purchase; it names no figure for other karats beyond "competitive rates". Its cash buyback is for jewellery, coins and bars it sold you, with the invoice, more than 14 days after the purchase, and pays 98% of its own gold rate for gold jewellery and 96% for gold coins.

One pavan (8 g) of 22K at Malabar's 22K rate of 25 September 2026. What Malabar's published terms come to, not a quote for any piece.
Exchanged against a new purchase₹1,12,080
Bought back for cash, its own piece with the invoice₹1,09,838
Difference₹2,242

Cash is paid only by account-payee cheque or bank transfer in your own name and can take 7 to 10 working days, and you have to show an identity document. Weigh the two before you decide, and work out your old gold's worth first.

For a piece Malabar sold you, exchange within 14 days costs nothing in making charges if it is unused. After that the exchange pays 100% of its gold rate on the gold and deducts the making charges, the taxes and the weight of the stones in full, so what comes back is the metal alone. Malabar asks for the original invoice, and for a diamond piece its certificate too.

Its published return policy covers orders placed on its website: 14 days from delivery, with the piece unused and its documents intact. It says in terms that it does not apply to a purchase made in a store. Ask the Nagercoil showroom for its own return terms and have them written on the bill.
