Products at D. Harris Nadar Jewellery, Nagercoil
Harris Nadar started in 1940 as a small outlet making jewellery to order. It now sells gold, diamond, platinum and silver jewellery, with bridal, antique and lightweight collections: necklaces, harams, thaali chains and thaali lockets, chains, bangles, ear studs and nose pins, rings and bracelets for men, and diamond solitaires, rings, earrings, pendants, bangles and baby studs.
Its diamond jewellery comes with a certificate signed by a gemologist, and it grades those diamonds EF colour and VVS1 clarity. Read the certificate against the piece before you pay: the colour, the clarity and the stone weight on it should be the ones on the tag. Its app handles gold scheme payments and daily gold rate alerts.
Kanyakumari district has been under mandatory BIS hallmarking since 2021, and Harris Nadar sells its gold hallmarked. Check the six-character HUID on the piece in the BIS Care app before you pay. The marks are laser-struck and small, so ask for the shop's magnifier and find the logo, the purity and the HUID on the piece first.

Harris Nadar making charges: how a piece is priced
Harris Nadar prices each piece in four lines.
- Gold. The net weight, stones excluded, at its rate for the purity.
- Stones. Priced on their own line.
- Value Added. What Harris Nadar charges for making the piece; the bill has no other making-charge or wastage line. Another shop may split the same work into a making charge and a wastage line, which is two figures to add before you compare.
- GST. 3% of the other three lines together, so the tax falls on the Value Added and the stones as well as the gold.

Harris Nadar making charges by piece
| Piece | Share of gold value | Per gram of gold |
|---|---|---|
| Diamond rings, earrings and pendants18 listed | 14.83% | ₹1,750 |
| Thaali lockets5 listed | 15% to 17% | ₹1,770 to ₹2,006 |
| Mugappu chains3 listed | 14% | ₹1,652 |
| Rope chains4 listed | 7% to 8%one more is listed with almost none | ₹826 to ₹944 |
All 18 diamond rings, earrings and pendants carry one Value Added, 14.83% of the gold value, which is ₹1,750 for every gram of gold in the piece. The share is what holds steady, so the charge grows with the weight of the design. Ask for the rupee figure as well as the percentage. One of the rope chains is listed with almost no Value Added at all. That is the price on one listing, not a charge for the kind, so ask what the Value Added is on the piece you are buying.
To compare with another shop's quote, take its making charge and wastage together as a share of the same gold value and set that against Harris Nadar's Value Added, at the same rate per gram. A percentage and a per-gram charge do not compare until one is converted into the other. No rule fixes the charge, so a quote from another of the Nagercoil jewellers is the one to compare it with. For a piece bought in the store, ask for the estimate in the same four lines. The jewellery price calculator works the same lines on your own figures.
Harris Nadar Jewellery gold scheme
Harris Nadar runs two 11-month gold schemes. At maturity you buy jewellery for the gold weight you have saved without paying making charges or wastage, except on exclusive high-end ornaments. GST and stone charges still apply.
| Scheme | You pay | Your savings build up as |
|---|---|---|
| Absolute Gold+ | ₹500 to ₹5,000 a month | Gold weight, at the prevailing gold rate |
| My Gold 11 | 0.5 g to 8 g of gold a month, in one or several payments | The weight you pay for |
Instalments are due by a fixed date each month. Once payments over the 11 months pass ₹2,00,000, Harris Nadar asks for your PAN. You can join and pay on its website or its app.
Before you join a Harris Nadar gold scheme
- "Which gold rate converts my payment, and for which purity?" The scheme says the prevailing rate; its rates differ by purity.
- "Which pieces count as exclusive high-end?" The waiver does not cover them.
- "Is the whole Value Added line waived at maturity?" Harris Nadar charges its making charge as one Value Added line.
- "What happens if I close early or miss a month?" An early closure buys jewellery equal to the amount paid in.
Harris Nadar returns, exchange and old gold
Harris Nadar accepts returns on online orders within seven days of delivery. The piece must be unused and come back with its security tag, invoice and certificate card; you can then exchange it, take a refund or have it replaced.
Customised pieces, pieces made to your design, loose solitaires and loose gemstones cannot be returned, and part payments on customised jewellery are not refunded. A refund keeps back the shipping charge, a processing fee and bank charges, and reaches your original payment method within seven working days of the piece arriving back. Report damage or a wrong piece on the day of delivery.
For a piece bought in the store, ask for the return terms on the bill.
Harris Nadar does not publish its old-gold exchange rate or deductions. Ask for both in writing before you exchange, and work out your old gold's exchange value first.
